Tips & Tricks for the Perfect Lamp Layer

This week on Dear Alice, we talk all about lamps. Lamps have never mattered more as the trend is to turn off the big light. Identical vs Mix. Eyes love repetition. There are many places we’d put matching lamps, like the nightstands around a bed or on matching end tables around a sofa in the living room. One of our favorite tricks is to put a large, statement lamp on a sizeable end table. This lamp becomes art, almost like you got the only one available. Depending on your space, you could get as large as you wanted, but we generally love a 30” lamp. Also, change out the LED for a warm lightbulb. Then, balance that statement lamp with a floor lamp on the other side of the sofa. 

Task Lamps. A striking metal shade with a focused glow on the surface, a task lamp is one of our new favorites. This light illuminates where you want it, not in your eyes and makes a beautiful addition to offices.

Baby Lamps. An Alice Lane favorite, we created the Penny Lamp as the perfect baby lamp. Its petite size styles well under cabinetry, counters, on kitchen shelves, secretaries, and other small areas.
