How big are standard rug sizes?

Standard rug sizes are 5x8, 6x9, 8x10, 9x12, and 10x14 feet. We always suggest getting the largest rug you can for your space. In a living room, make sure at minimum the front feet are on the rug, but we suggest all feet on the rug. In a bedroom, add the widths of the bed and nightstands to get the width of the rug. What’s the difference between a rug and a carpet?

Carpet is installed wall-to-wall and fixed to the floor, while a rug is laid on top of the floor and can move with you. Rugs define an area and leave some floor showing around the edges. They’re also easier to clean, rotate, or refresh when you need a new rug.

How do you treat rug stains?

Rug care depends on the type of material it is made out of. General care is to blot a stain right away with a clean white cloth, working from the outside in. Never rub. Lift what you can with cool water and mild soap, testing a hidden spot first. Wool, viscose, and jute each need different care; check our Product Care Guide before you treat a stain.

How do you secure a rug?

A rug pad is the best way to keep a rug in place. Choose one about 1” smaller than the rug on every side so the edges lie flat. For runners on hard floors, rug tape or corner grippers can help stop slipping.
