Overview
Proposition 65 (Prop 65) is a California law that requires businesses to provide clear and reasonable warnings before exposing individuals to chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. The list of regulated chemicals is maintained by the State of California and updated periodically.
Why you may see a Prop 65 warning
A Prop 65 warning appears when a product may contain one or more Prop 65-listed chemicals and an exposure could exceed California’s "safe harbor" level. Warnings do not mean a product is unsafe — often exposure levels are extremely low or included as a precaution advised by suppliers or manufacturers.
When we display a warning
- When a product contains or may contain Prop 65-listed chemicals.
- When a manufacturer or supplier advises a warning be provided.
- When an exposure could exceed California's safe harbor thresholds.
Warning language we use
⚠️ WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including [Chemical Name], which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information, visit www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
For furniture and certain home furnishings we may use the furniture-specific wording and link: www.P65Warnings.ca.gov/furniture.
Placement & visibility
On our website, Prop 65 warnings are displayed on the Product Detail Page (PDP) before purchase — not hidden behind tabs or only in the footer. Where required, we also include on-product labels, tags, or packaging inserts in addition to online warnings.
What this means for you
Prop 65 warnings are informational. They do not ban products and do not necessarily indicate unsafe usage. California’s thresholds are often more conservative than other federal or international standards.
