Focal Points and Styling Tips
Styling is the final touch, showing the soul of the house and your personality. Curating the final pieces can be a difficult process. Although it is incredibly personalized, here are a few styling tips and recommendations for restyling and creating focal points.
Tip 1: We recommend removing everything from the space. Start completely fresh with a clean surface. Survey the pieces you’ve removed and see what naturally looks good together, what doesn’t fit, and what you are missing. Once that is complete, you are ready to style.
Tip 2: Lamps are an ideal focal point, easily adding visual height and elegance to any space. When styling on a nightstand, place it closer to the bed for easy access to the light switch. For an end table, style toward the middle to leave room for guests to set down drinks and electronics. Our Blythe Lamp brings in a natural, textured look with its alabaster base accentuated by brass hardware. The Frances Lamp features a substantial crystal base, reflecting light and adding sparkle. One of our favorite tricks is to pair solid pieces with transparent ones. Our Crystal Lamps are an effortless solution, creating a beautiful statement.
Tip 3: Books are versatile and we love styling them throughout the house. They are the perfect addition to shelves, consoles, and built-ins. Books are large and ground a space, while also providing protection for surfaces. Our favorites are Tom Ford, Tom Ford 2.0, and Architectural Digest. In built-ins, we love to stack horizontally adding weight, balance, and length. Pair with the Crystal Bookends for that translucent, beautifully contrasting design.
Tip 4: Artwork can easily become the focal point. Showcase any piece with a stand, further catching the eye and adding sophistication. Our Lucite Easel and Art Stand lend height with its substantial base, elevating prized artwork. We love to place a large artwork towards the back of a console or built-in and then layer smaller pieces in front. Another favorite is the Gallery Easel, its thin brass design provides an almost floating look, truly centering attention on the artwork.
Tip 5: Along with artwork, picture frames are a beautiful styling addition. Showcase important and meaningful photography with our Black and Crystal Frame. Its substantial size and translucent design styles well in built-ins, providing sophistication and rest for the eye. For a bigger statement, our Crystal Orb Frame lends texture and elegance. It adds a refined touch to end tables and consoles. Style on top of a book or two for added height and visibility.
Tip 6: Blending the line between focal point and supporting accessory, these pieces can be styled either way. Our large Wooden Sculptures feature an oversized, textured design. We like to style on fireplaces, separating the set and displaying on the mantle and hearth. It creates a traveled, dimensional look. The Crystal Obelisks are a design must-have. We can’t get enough of their simple elegance. With five sizes to choose from, we love to mix and match them together. We suggest styling a grouping of three on consoles and end tables or placing one on a built-in shelf or mantle.
These suggestions can help you style and restyle your spaces throughout the years. For more tips on styling a built-in, check out our blog post here. For more styling tips, listen to this week’s podcast episode here.
