4 Times To Go Small
At Alice Lane, we are always saying go big. We recommend the biggest rug for the space, large artwork, and generous designs. However, there are four moments when we suggest going small. As Jess always says, “Small things fit in small areas.” This means there are specific places where going small is the best option and makes a big impact.
Mirrors. One of our favorite places to go small is above a bed, especially a four-poster bed. The canopy creates a room-within-a-room feel, so adding a small mirror scales beautifully. It feels like the mirror is a crown jewel or a punctuation mark. We recommend a convex mirror with a dimensional, statement frame, such as the Sunwave Mirror.
Small Art. Similarly, if the bedroom has lots of bold patterns or wallpaper, we like to go with a quiet piece of art. It is restful to add a piece with lots of white matte that is a reflection of the person’s personality.
Small Lamp. Our best-selling Penny Lamp is the perfect example of when to go small. Scaled for floating shelves, under cabinets, and on small bar carts, it easily becomes a jeweled focal point.
Plates & Platters. Collected or designer, styling plates and platters on the wall can be a beautiful statement. These soft shapes are perfect in a square area like a kitchen or dining room. Here we created a stunning composition in Angie Harrington’s Dining Room of different sizes and shapes. Another option is to do a graduation of scales, going from biggest to smallest.
These are four of our favorite places to go smaller. To hear Jess and Suz go more in detail, listen to this week’s episode on Dear Alice here.
