Favorite Kitchen Styling Tips

Kitchens are a fun challenge to style, as it is a space where functionality is very important, but we don’t want to miss out on making it beautiful. Regardless of size, counter space, or shelving availability, there are always ways to create a blend of liveable and luxury. Here are Jess’s favorite tips for styling a kitchen.

Shelves. It doesn’t matter if open or closed shelving, this is where we recommend starting. On the lower shelves, place every day dishes like plates and bowls, so they are easy to grab throughout the cooking process. Next, for open shelving, we love to add in cookbooks like Cook Beautiful, Missoni Family Cookbook, or More with Less for added structure and elevating. Lay a book or two on its side and stack dishes on top to mix up the heights. Top shelves are for the Glass Pitcher and Dessert Dishes, pieces that are beautiful but used more occasionally.

Counters. One of our new favorite tricks is to use our small Teak Cutting Board as a trivet near the oven. Pair with Salt and Pepper Mills and oils for a beautiful and useful tool while cooking on the stove. Next, style the Arno Easel with a cookbook for added elevation and the benefit of hands-free while cooking. We love adding our Penny Lamp, tucked in a corner on the counter, its petite size and light-catching crystal are perfect for a small nightlight and elegant visual texture. Finally add in a Butter Dome, Fruit Bowl, and Utensil Holder to keep everyday essentials nearby for frequent use.

Stovetop. Create a striking centerpiece to your kitchenscape by adding our large Teak Cutting Board along the back of the stove. Many kitchens are a grid of squares with backsplash, counters, cupboards, and stoves. The natural live edge of the cutting board loosens up the lines, lending an organic, eye-catching design.

Finalize the look by grouping likes with likes, playing with height, and making sure the set-up is functional for you. To watch Jess style a kitchen, check out the Styling Session here.
